This FREE lesson is a small group activity to reinforce a lesson on the PARTS OF SPEECH. Great for use in conjunction with the Parts of Speech Power Point lecture.
There are 8 sets of cards here. Each set has 8 words. Good for large classes or only use a few sets for smaller classes. Laminate the cards for continued use over time.
I have purposely not added color to these cards, so that they will be easier for you to print out in black and white.
I use this activity with all age groups, including higher education remedial classes and ESL learners.
Print out cards on cardstock paper. Each set should have the LABEL cards (noun, verb, etc.) and the set of words. Give each group of students a set of cards or have a set of cards on different tables with the students rotating to tables. You can also hang the parts of speech on a wall and have students sort their cards on the wall.
Students will get into groups and organize a group of word cards into the appropriate categories (nouns, verbs, etc.)
The teacher will circulate the room to check the student’s progress. Students should reshuffle the word cards after the teacher checks their answers, and then they will move on to the next group of cards.
For an extra activity, challenge students to form a sentence from their words!
